Murdered: Soul Suspect, a project of Airtight Games, is an upcoming action-adventure supernatural detective game whose publishing rights have been sold to Square-Enix. The game is scheduled to be released on 3^rd June, 2014 worldwide and has been highly praised by the public and critics for its unique concept. The title’s storyline puts emphasis on the character ,’Detective Ronan O’Connor ‘, who takes the path of solving the mystery of his own death.

Plot

The story is based n Salem, Massachusetts which is a place famous for many supernatural theories. The plot focuses mainly on the protagonist, Detective Ronan O’ Connor, who is unfortunately killed in pursuit of a crime.

Ronan, the ghost, finds his inanimate body lying dead on a street and takes the responsibility of solving the shocking mystery of his own murder.

Gameplay

Murdered: Soul Suspect’s gameplay mechanic is primarily based on the concepts of possession and mystery solving. Players take the control of Ronan from a third-person perspective and are provided with ultimate freedom to solve mysteries by various techniques. Since, the protagonist is a ghost; he can see and do what normal human beings can’t. He can view all the other ghosts in the vicinity and has access to many supernatural powers like passing through anything without any obstruction along with some restrictions .Ronan cannot enter into a building by passing through its walls as  these buildings have foundations that radiate a great amount of energy creating a strong barrier that cannot be infiliterated. So, buildings can only be entered by taking the help of living beings indirectly.

Ronan’s murder mystery is divided into many objectives and cracking these objectives starts with collecting evidence. Evidences can be collected by interacting with certain objects or dead bodies, eavesdropping on conversations and taking possessions of living bodies. When Ronan interacts with an object or a dead body, multiple hints appear on the screen from which players have to choose one to know more about it, e.g. interacting with a broken bat will pop up certain hints on the screen and players have to choose those that highlight the reason behind the bat being broken and other relevant information. Ronan has the ability to read people’s minds which can prove to be very vital to collect clues like possessing the mind of a witness can help Ronan to learn vital facts related to a certain objective. Similarly, by possessing the body of a person talking to someone, players can also gain some information that can also prove to be very useful. Once all the evidences related to a certain objective are collected, a deduction can be made highlighting a cinematic sequence that combines all of them framing a new objective that further needs to be completed to know more facts along with many mysteries.

There are also other ghosts with whom Ronan can interact that will trigger side quests. Completeing them will increase the player’s xp and lead to certain achievements. Evil ghosts may also be encountered in-game and can prove to be very dangerous stealing away the energy of the character. Hence, they can be either avoided or attacked by using multiple strategies.
