How to Make an Inverter by yourself?

Last updated on May 24th, 2016

This article will give you some basic information about how to make an inverter by yourself using some integrated chip and passive and active components.

inverter circuit using CD-4047

List of materials you’ll need:

  • IC: CD4047
  • Ceramic Capacitor: 0.1μf (104)
  • Electrolytic Capacitor: 4700μf
  • MOSFET: IRFZ44N or P55NF06
  • Preset: 50K
  • Resistor: 100Ω 1/2 watt => 2pcs
  • Resistor: 330Ω 1/4 watt=> 1pc
  • Transformer: 12-0-12 (With Central Tapping), 5 Ampere
  • Polyster Capacitor: 0.1μf 400V
  • Diode: 5408
  • Zener 4148
  • Breadboard with connecting wires

PrototypingPrototype P55NF06

First prototype the circuit on a good quality Bread-Board.

  • CD4047 is a multivibrator which is used here to get 50Hz frequency in the DC current.
  • PIN 1,2 and 3 are the adjusting pin to get the desired frequency. We used here a RC circuit to get a frequency of 50Hz.
  • Connect a variable resistor of 50K between pin 2 and pin 3 then adjust the resistance to 39.1Ω.
  • Connect a ceramic capacitor of capacitance of 0.1μf (104) between pin-1 and pin-3.
  • PIN 4,5,6 and 14 are connected to the +ve terminal of the battery as shown in the schematic diagram.
  • PIN 7,8,9 and 12 are connected to the -ve terminal of the battery, refer the schematic.
  • PIN 10 and PIN 11 are the outputs which are connected to the Gate of the MOSFETs.
  • The Source terminal of these MOSFETs are grounded (-12 volts).
  • The Drain terminal of the MOSFETs are connected to the end terminals of the transformers.
  • fast switching diode 4148 is connected between the drain and the source of the MOSFETs.
  • The Central-Tapped terminal of the Transformer is connected to the +12Volts.
  • Between the output terminals of the transformer connect a Polyster Capacitor of 0.1μf 400v.
  • Since the Transformer is of 5 Apm you will get the maximum wattage of 12volts x 5 Apm = 60watts.

NOTE: To increase the Wattage of the circuit connect more IRFZ44N MOSFETs in parallel with both of the MOSFETs along with incresing the Amperes of the trasnformers. DONOT forget to connect heatsink to these MOSFETS.

Circuit Diagram if you are using Bleaching Powder Cell

While connecting the inverter circuit to the bleaching powder-cell don’t forget to add a voltage regulator 7812, rest of the connection remains the same. The modified schematic for the Bleaching-Powder-Cell is:

inverter circuit using CD-4047_free energy

LM7812 is a voltage regulator which regulates the voltage to be 12 Volts only. The input range is 12 volts to 35 volts. Since, the Bleaching powder cell produces variable voltage, it is required to be constant and regulated before converting to AC. That is why we put a LM7812 voltage regulator.

(Click Here to see: How to produce free energy using Bleaching Powder)

After converting DC to AC from a Bleaching Powder cell. the AC Voltage was measured to be 170 Volts.
