Google Maps just recently added a new feature. Now you can get real time public transportation info from the application. At present, this service is only available across places like Chicago, San Francisco, UK, Budapest, Seattle and the Netherlands. Soon, the feature will be available for a majority amount of people.
With the help of this app, you can know the status of your train or bus like its location and the estimated time required for it to reach your destination. In order to achieve this utility, Google had to negotiate with more than 6,000 transit authorities to track the whereabouts of a vehicle.
For the users, the public transit facilities will be categorized under various groups to add flexibility when they plan a route to a specific location. Suppose you wanted to take a subway line that you find is behind schedule then the Maps will provide you an alternate subway route that will enable you to get there on time.
