Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! will be out anytime now. And so are the reviews. And to save you the dread of reading through six different 1500 word reviews of different sites, we bring you the gist of what different reviewers are saying about the game.

For the unaware, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, takes place before Borderlands 2 and focuses on how Handsome Jack became a villain.

IGN– 8/10

An 8 from IGN usually means that the game is a pretty fun one. This credibility was however, recently questioned by the gaming community when Alien: Isolation was given a mere 5.9. Anyways, reviewed by Vince Ingenito, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! was highly praised for staying true to its roots and delivering a solid narrative. Jack’s story has been lauded as being strong and non-cliched. Game mechanics like the low gravity system and gearing options were appreciated as well and it was also pointed out that there was a lot of variety in the skill trees of the four playable characters. According to the reviewer the only glaring fault in this game seems to be something that was evident in previous games too; pacing issues. The game is not even paced. Also the waypoint system was very confusing, according to Vince. But overall, the game is fun and will definitely please the fans of Borderlands. Read the full review here.

Polygon– 7/10

Reviewed by Arthur Gies, the main issue according to this reviewer was that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! was ‘well, more Borderlands.’ He pointed out that although 2k studios stayed true to the Borderlands franchise, they clearly failed to step out of the comfort zone. Although, Gies also stated in his review that the low gravity system and the air management system managed to make this game better than the previous ones as this system gave better mobility to the player. He also praised the gun play and said that the gun play in this game was better than the gun play in any of the previous games. However, he criticized the game for not being anything new and stated that this was the ‘least essential game’ of the series. He concluded by saying that the game is nothing new and uses the same recipe as the previous Borderland games. The low gravity system however makes this game more fun to play. The wrapped up by saying that the game is worth its time.Read the full review here.

Joystiq– 3.5 stars/5 stars

Jessica Conditt reviewed the game for Joystiq. Her review started out similar to that of Arthur’s; she started off by saying that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was more Borderlands. She emphasized on the point that there was more loot in this game than in the previous ones. She appreciated the new low gravity and the oxygen management mechanics and also lauded the gun play as there were always tons of enemies to shoot at. She did point out that although the double jump system (introduced due to the low gravity setting of the game) was useful in battle, it was a bother during navigation as the level design was confusing and it was hard to find the right way to a waypoint. She appreciated the new character classes and said that they were very well defined. The missions are repetitive but tend to stay fun and comedic. She concluded that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a pretty good Borderlands game but ‘lacks soul.’ Read the full review here.
